FAQs

SEO is basically about making your website easier to find on Google. You know how when you search for something, you usually just click on one of the first few results? That’s what everyone does. SEO is all the stuff you do to try to get your website up there in those top spots.
It’s kind of like if you had a shop on a street with a hundred other shops. You’d want a bright sign, maybe put your best stuff in the window, make sure people can actually get through your door easily. SEO is the online version of that. You’re making sure search engines can find your site, understand what it’s about, and think it’s worth showing to people.
This means things like using the actual words people type when they search, making sure your site isn’t painfully slow to load, writing content that’s actually useful, and getting other sites to link to you (which is kind of like getting recommendations from other businesses).

It stands for Search Engine Optimization. Pretty straightforward, right? You’re optimizing your stuff for search engines.
Though here’s the thing: even though it’s called “search engine” optimization, you’re really doing it for people. Google’s gotten smart enough that the best way to rank well is just to make a genuinely helpful website. So yeah, you’re technically optimizing for an algorithm, but the algorithm is trying to find what actual humans want anyway.

Local SEO is SEO but specifically for getting found by people near you. It’s for businesses that serve customers in a specific area, like a coffee shop, dentist, plumber, or hair salon.
Think about when you search for “pizza near me” or “plumber in Traverse City.” Google shows you a map with local businesses, right? That’s local SEO at work. It’s all about making sure your business shows up in those local searches when people in your area are looking for what you offer.
The big difference from regular SEO is that location matters a ton here. You’d do things like set up your Google Business Profile (that’s the thing that shows your hours, photos, and reviews on Google Maps), make sure your address and phone number are consistent everywhere online, get reviews from customers, and use local keywords on your website like “Traverse City bakery” instead of just “bakery.”
It’s super important if you have a physical location or serve specific areas, because most people aren’t scrolling past that map to find you. If you’re not in those top local results, you’re invisible to people searching in your neighborhood.

On-page optimization is all the stuff you do directly on your website to make it rank better in search results. It’s called “on-page” because you’re working on the actual pages themselves, not doing things elsewhere like getting other sites to link to you.
This includes writing good titles and descriptions, using relevant keywords naturally, adding alt text to images, making sure your site loads fast, and ensuring it works well on mobile. You’re making it crystal clear to both search engines and visitors what your page is about and why it’s helpful.

Honestly? For most businesses, yes, it’s absolutely worth it.
People are already searching for what you offer. If you’re not showing up in those search results, your competitors are. SEO helps you get in front of people who are actively looking for your product or service right now.
The other big advantage is that SEO builds over time. Unlike paid ads where traffic stops the second you stop paying, good SEO work keeps bringing people to your site for months or even years.
The catch is it takes time and effort. You won’t see results overnight. But for most local businesses, service providers, or online stores, it’s one of the best marketing investments you can make. You’re meeting people right when they need you.

The truth is it usually around 3 to 6 months before you start seeing real results. Local businesses can usually see results sooner, especially if you’re not in a super competitive area.
Like most things, it depends on the amount of work being done. If you’re consistently creating content and improving your site, you’ll see results faster than if you’re just making a few tweaks here and there.
That’s why spending too little on SEO is sometimes shooting yourself in the foot. If you don’t put in enough energy, you won’t see results, and people quit right before things would’ve started working. It’s like watering a plant once and giving up when it doesn’t bloom.
Once you start ranking though, it tends to stick around and keep improving as long as you maintain it.
